Celebrities Keep Wearing Tie-Dye

Tie-dye hoodies are perfect year around, obviously, but they’re especially stellar in the summer. Once the sun sets and the mosquitos emerge, those cool August nights are made for slipping into a cozy sweatshirt washed with psychedelic swirls.

Tie-dye has been cool since the ’60s; seen on hippies, skater kids, tropical tourists, and especially trendy five-year-olds. Fast forward to today: what first reemerged as a runway trend over the past couple of years has now fully made its way onto the ‘grams of celebrities. Below, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite sightings of how our favorite stars wear tie-dye hoodies, along with an assortment of other tie-dye goodies. After all, any tie-dye is good tie-dye, right?

Editor's note: This blog post was written in a past life, AKA pre-Covid-19. In the past year and a half since it was written, tie-dye sweatshirts and sweatpants have exploded in popularity, aided by growing taps from celebrities along with the extremely-cozy-but-cute-enough-for-Instagram-Live look that so many of us strived for this past year while social distancing. Along with creating a new general 'lounge' category this past year, we also got some amazing tie-dye sweats in.

Why start with one good thing when you can instead begin with two? Lil Nas X and Jaden Smith are double (slash, triple?) trouble in contrasting tie-dye approaches.

Dua Lipa locked down on three trends of the past year, wearing a 1. oversized 2. tie-dyed 3. vaguely teddy fleece-looking sweatshirt with a uniquely block-like pattern.

Go bold (and simultaneously shy) like Hailey Baldwin. Just wear an oversized tie-dye hoodie and pair of black stilettos.

SZA is cute and casual in a tie-dye t-shirt, glasses, and basketball shorts. Bonus points for the pupper next to her!

J-Lo turned heads when she stepped out in this vivid tie-dye sweat set, complete with a tie-dye face mask to boot.

Another coordinating tie-dye sweatsuit spotted on Behati Prinsloo, in a more muted monotone dye job that was especially popular during the heigh of lockdown.

Khalid’s tie-dye is great and reminds us of one of our own tie-dye hoodies (minus the funny graphic, sadly).

Tove Lo wears a cropped tie-dye long sleeve shirt, paired with jeans we’re truly jealous of. Add a scrunchie for 100% ’90s flair!

Halsey combines the two trending moments of tie dye and mesh and pairs it with a fun eye look for some matchy-matchy goodness.

2 Chainz wears a tie-dye sweatshirt paired with some crazy bungee cord pants. Plz note the pup next to him having a major #same moment.

Diplo is +1 tie-dye hoodie draped across his shoulder and -1 front tooth. Worth it! The vintage-looking t-shirt and dad hat combine to make this a truly Ragstock-worthy outfit.

Selena Gomez looks super cute while posing for the classic business-with-your-name-on-the-front photo, wearing a classic tie-dye shirt, metallic hoops, simple black slacks, and good ol’ white sneaks.

Loving these pants worn on Rita Ora. ~~We, unfortunately, don’t have any tie-dye sweatpants at the moment, but it’s bound to happen at some point~~ we TOTALLY have tie-dye sweatpants, now!
