GET TO KNOW:

DEANNA FERGUSON

We noticed Deanna not only for her killer takes on some of our favorite graphic tees but also because of her sun-drenched, color-filled photographs. Recently, we were able to chat and get her take on everything from personal style to beauty in the Midwest.

Tell us a little about yourself! Where do you live? What do you spend most of your time doing? Are you working on any projects right now, creative or otherwise?
Hello! I’m Deanna, or D for short. I am 18 years old and currently live in Iowa City, Iowa! Most of my time is spent working at Harley Davidson, taking pictures, or with friends making memories. I’m always making sure I get my camera out at least once a day even if I’m not feeling the best!
Describe your current personal style. Has it changed much throughout the years? If you can, give us a breakdown of your style as a five, ten, fifteen, and twenty-year-old.
My personal style as of right now is very vintage and LOADS of denim. I love the look of handmade/one-of-a-kind items and I'll always go back to that style so matter how many I try!

At the age of 5, my mom made all of my clothing for me! I always had the coolest outfits ever.

At 10 years old I just wanted to dress like every Disney star I would see. I loved Limited Too a little bit too much...

At 15 I really liked cropped tops and this was about the age I was when I first found Ragstock! I used to buy all my shirts and dresses from you guys!

And now at 18, I have a very laid back style. I go for ease and comfort. I also love to layer! Jackets and shoes are so important—they add to any simple outfit!

How do you think that living in the Midwest, specifically the cities you’ve found yourself in, affected your sense of taste and style?
I don’t think that living in the Midwest has much effect on my style. I mean, the weather makes it hard to look nice sometimes but that’s about it. Every place I’ve lived has so many different styles you just need to find what you like and stick with it.
Speaking of the Midwest, we’re so impressed with your ability to find interesting backdrops for your photos. Where are some of your favorite places to shoot your looks?
I used to think finding places to take pictures in the Midwest was so hard. I was wrong! I wasn’t looking at the bigger picture. I love to take pictures outsides at parks or with cool street art! My favorite places are big fields and the top of parking garages.

"I get my camera out at least once a day even if I'm not feeling the best"
Do you take most of your own photos or is there a photographer that you work with?
I take most of my own pictures unless I tag the photographer in the picture!
Are there any photographers or bloggers who inspire you or are ones you watch/read consistently?
Jolene Dombrowski and Austin Drake are my top two photographers.
It seems like you enjoy traveling! Have you done much of it? What’s been your favorite trip?
I love to travel! I grew up traveling all the time for my parents work trips or to visit family. I try to go out of state at least once every other month! My favorite place I’ve ever been was St. Croix. That island is my second home—my inner peace lives there.

Where is the next place you’d like to visit?
I would love to go to Africa, Brazil, and India very soon. They are at the top of my bucket list.
What are you listening to or watching at the moment? Have any recommendations for us?
My current music obsession has been with Greta Van Fleet. I’ve had their album on repeat for a couple months!

What do you love about Ragstock? Do you have an all-time favorite find?
Ragstock has the best fur coats, recycled jeans, denim jackets and cute basic tanks/t-shirts. That’s basically all I wear. It's like walking into my dream closet every time I walk into the store. I got a white long fur coat there a year ago and it’s the best thing I’ve ever bought and I love it more than words can explain. Now I’m on the lookout for a long cheetah one!
