No Sew Cloth Face Mask

Provided by the CDC, these instructions show how to make a face mask without any sewing, using a piece of cloth such as a bandana or scarf. Your face covering should be washed regularly in the washing machine, and when removing your mask, be careful not to touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. Please read this page on the CDC’s website for more information!

Cloth Face Coverings Should:

• fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
• be secured with ties or ear loops
• include multiple layers of fabric
• allow for breathing without restriction
• be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape

*When using one of our scarves, fold the fabric into a square-like shape before beginning this tutorial

PLEASE NOTE: These masks are not meant to replace surgical face masks or N-95 respirators. However, when you must go out, something to cover yourself is better than nothing. At the very least, it will remind you to not touch your face! While cotton is the preferred fabric to use, other materials are also moderately effective at blocking out particles when layered.

How to Make a No-Sew Pleated Face Mask

This video tutorial from Japanese Creations shows you how to fold a piece of fabric into a multi-layered face mask.

Materials:
• Handkerchief or scarf (a regular cotton handkerchief of 18″ x 18″ is used in this tutorial)
• 2 hair tiesNote from Japanese Creations:
• If you have tights that have a hole or a strain, make elastic bands from them. Very soft and stretchy, they are actually more comfortable than regular hair ties.

• Elastic bands from a sock are also comfy and can be good alternatives. However, they tend to shed.

How to Sew a Fabric Mask with a Filter Pocket

This tutorial is based on the instructions provided by Maker’s Habitat (which can be found here!).MEASUREMENTS FOR ADULT SIZE:

Main Fabric: 24cm x 19cm
Lining: 18cm x 13cm
Elastic length per piece: 30cm if elastic is very stretchy, or 35cm if it’s not very stretchy. Try it on and adjust the length if needed.
